When we think of being creative, it’s natural to think of an artist creating a visual piece, or a musician composing a song. More clinically, perhaps, you might think of a Graphic Designer fashioning a new advertising layout or even a Publicist who envisions a new advertising campaign. All of these would be accurate, but maybe there’s more.

In recent years, I’ve taken up the hobby of strategic miniatures gaming. Think of the Green Army Men that perhaps either you or your children played with. They might have arranged them all in a row, said “bang-bang”, and then squabbled over who defeated whom. Strategic miniatures gaming is like that, only with rules governing who can do what. That way, you can avoid the same sort of squabbling – hopefully. And, there are more possible situations to play than just Military. You can create Westerns, Sci-Fi, Action, Sailing Adventures and, my favorite, Superheroes.
The point is, this is all a means of being creative. You fashion a world the same as a novelist or screenwriter, populate it with characters, and explore actions and consequence. Creating the custom figures, as well as scenery and vehicles, is easily as innovative as an artist is at their easel.
I’m still a novice to all of this. But I enjoy the creativity this hobby inspires, and I look forward to future opportunities to do even more.
